Documentary Photography

Harris Xanthopoulos (b. 1971, Athens, Greece) is a photographer whose work focuses on street, documentary and everyday life. His interest in photography began at an early age, but in his early thirties he decided to pursue it more seriously, turning his attention to artistic and documentary photography.
During the following years he worked as a freelance event photographer, while continuing to develop a personal body of work centered on the observation of ordinary moments and the quiet theatre of everyday life.
The economic crisis in Greece interrupted his photographic activity for a period, but in recent years he has returned to photography with renewed focus, working mainly on documentary and reportage projects.
He currently works as a freelance photojournalist under contract with ZUMA Press, an independent, photographer-owned press agency and wire service, and collaborates with MedPress, an independent visual journalism platform covering Southern Europe, the Balkans, North Africa and the Middle East. He has also previously collaborated with JNA Press and contributed to Alamy Live News.
He has been a member of the Photographic Circle (Athens) and has participated in several group exhibitions.
He lives and works in Athens.
